VIMAL CHAND
VIMAL CHAND
October 17, 1966
M.F.A. in Painting from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi (1993)
Vimal Chand was born in Delhi and grew up surrounded by the serenity of forests, an environment that fostered his profound connection to nature. The natural world, with its ever- changing hues, textures, and rhythms, became his lifelong muse. From the dappled light filtering through the trees to the ever-shifting sky, Vimal found a deep sense of divinity in nature’s simplicity and grandeur. He often shares, “This love of nature unfolds onto my canvas, where I try to capture the smell of the wet earth, the coolness of the water, and the freshness of the breeze”. His brushwork traces a journey across the canvas, unfolding panoramic views of mystic landscapes that captivate the viewer’s imagination. The brush, laden with thick, rich pigment, moves with purpose, tirelessly covering the surface and infusing every natural form with a vibrant, tactile presence. Each element—whether it's the curves of a tree, the stretch of grass, or the delicate outline of leaves—comes alive with intense texture and depth. The lines that define these forms seem to resonate with a mysterious, almost lyrical musicality, as if the artwork itself hums with life. Vimal Chand received his MFA in Painting from Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, in 1993. He has showcased his work in several prestigious exhibitions, including the Yuva Mahotsav in New Delhi (1989-1995), the annual exhibitions of the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (1992, 1995, and 1997), and the United Art Fair in New Delhi in 2012. His group exhibitions span across various prominent venues in India, organized by institutions like Lalit Kala Academy, Travancore Art Gallery, New Delhi, Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, and Tansen Kala Vithika, Gwalior. Additionally, Vimal has held four solo shows in New Delhi between 1999 and 2007.
